About the Devils Lake SBDC Staff:
Sandy Shively, Center Director: Sandy started at North Central Planning Council (NCPC) as an Economic Development Coordinator and Small Business Development Center Business Advisor in 2010. In May 2013 she became the Executive Director. Sandy graduated from Minot State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration with a major in Management and is a National Development Council Certified Economic Development Finance Professional.
Sandy has worked for non-profits for over 25 years and has 15 years management experience. She has served on a number of boards over the years and currently serves as a board member for the Rural Economic Area Partnership Investment Board; she is a Ramsey County Representative on the Community Development Corporation and is a Trustee for the Devils Lake Area Foundation. Sandy also serves on the Devils Lake Renaissance Board.
Michelle Fritz, Business Advisor:
Michelle joined the NCPC in May of 2013. She is a graduate of Lake Region State College and has a Bachelor of Business and Public Administration with a major in Marketing from the University of North Dakota. Her background brings over 26 years of retail experience, a Certified Pharmacy Technician and over 2 years at the Lakes Social Service District. While working in the Family Business she served on the Chamber of Commerce Retail Committee and served 8 years as township clerk/treasurer. Memberships include the Lake Region Pioneer Daughters, Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, and the St Olaf Relay for Life Team. Michelle also serves as President of the Devils Lake Branch - American Association of University Women (AAUW). Additional volunteer activities include Lake Region Figure Skating Club, 4-H Shooting Sports and Miki’s School of Dance events. Michelle and her husband Roger reside in Devils Lake and have 2 children, Gregory and Rachel.
As an SBDC Business Advisor, Michelle treasures the relationships she develops with new and long-term clients. Starting or expanding a business is exciting and assisting with making the dream a reality is very rewarding. Gratification continues as businesses find their niche in small communities.
